I don't let that worry me, as I eat foods from a wide range of soils with different mineral strengths and weaknesses - if you like it's an argument for not eating exclusively locally, as only in an iodine deficient area where all food comes from local sources would deficiency be a potential problem. Iodine is a trace mineral - our needs are tiny, and in fact too much can cause as many problems as too little, so don't worry that you can't afford sea veg.Debbie Tookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10345367033617524547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1227591395966495076.post-23602988264051427272009-10-25T20:12:05.097-07:002009-10-25T20:12:05.097-07:00I'm a student living on a very limited budget,...I'm a student living on a very limited budget, and I've been attempting to eat "raw" and healthy. How can I get iodine in my diet without using table salt? If, for an example, an athlete expends a great deal of energy and loses salt through perspiration, he will naturally replace this through the increased food intake necessary to maintain that level of physical activity.

Also, for all that, a benchmark figure for minimum sodium needs is still relevant, as it is for any nutrient - exact amounts of which would obviously vary by individual and lifestyle.

Thank you for the link to the site that, yet again, says how important 'salt' is to the body then discusses it only in relation to 'sodium chloride' rather than sodium via plant sources.

If you would like further information about replacing of sodium lost and how ingestion of sodium chloride is not essential to this process I would suggest joining 30Bananas forum and asking the athletes there(see Links www.rawforlife.co.uk).Debbie Tookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10345367033617524547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1227591395966495076.post-67006042565874552002009-09-12T03:38:30.400-07:002009-09-12T03:38:30.400-07:00Debbie
